Body of Art

Caroly absolutely adores the sport of bodybuilding and fitness. Although she only started two years ago, she competed soon after picking up the sport and won the Miss Fitness Bermuda twice, and then went on to place in the top three in the Central American and Caribbean Championships. With a goal to turn professional in this next year, this hard working athlete has not only a lot of training ahead of her, but also a lot of fun. So with so much to look forward to, Caroly wanted to capture where she is right now in  a nontraditional fashion through artistic photos. She realises what a piece of art the body is and so what better way to capture this new physique than with artistic imagery.

We decided to approach the shoot from an abstract, yet feminine angle. With some jewelry draped on select body parts, it was the perfect way to highlight all Caroly's hard work. Despite the early morning and late night training, plus weekends no longer really being her own, she feels it is a small price to pay for that feeling she gets when she walks onto that stage on the night of a show. The payoff for all her sacrifices suddenly make it all worth while.

What Caroly didn't realise when she decided to compete in a Fitness show were all the little things that go with the performance. Like the posing suits, the make up and of course that stage tan that shows off the sculpted body so well under the harsh lights. The spray on tan is definitely Caroly's least favourite part of the whole preparation, for the skin remains stained for weeks after the show, and even in these photos, it had already started to slightly blotch, but again, she feels it is all so worth the reward in the end.

After the jewels, I picked some wild roses from my garden and sprinkled them over Caroly's back. It was so beautiful to see her sculpted back and the delicate petals scattered across her. Love these images.

This last one is the same shot as the first one, just processed in a regular way, but love both versions.

Caroly - thank you so much for such a fun shoot - I really appreciate your trusting my creativity. It is not often I have a client walk into my home and simply say do whatever you will - I love your vision. So thank you for your trust and willingness to let me make some magic and thank you of course for being such an incredibly beautiful model - all your hard work has definitely paid off as these photos well show. I wish you the best of luck in all your training - may 2011 bring you much success, and even more happiness. xxx

Happy 10th Anniversary Kevin

Life was hectic for Irene and Kevin so their official anniversary date passed without as much pizazz on the pressie front as Irene had hoped. She really wanted to get something special for her hubby to celebrate their 10 amazing years of marriage. She decided to do something totally out of character and book a boudoir session which she knew would be very unexpected, but much appreciated.

On the morning of the shoot, she told Kevin she was going to the spa. He became a tad skeptical when she put on make up and stuffed a bag full of jewelry, accessories and sexy items, but she slipped out promising that even if it wasn't the spa she was headed for, it was nothing sinister and in fact quite the opposite.

Irene just lights up when she speaks about her husband. She told me that when she met him, she was captured by his beautiful smile and got butterflies when he first spoke to her. And she's had butterflies ever since. So I thought this decorative butterfly I usually have in my fireplace was perfect to give a little drama to the shoot.

The two met when Irene returned to Bermuda for a second holiday after it had rained the entire time during her first trip to the Island. The following year, she came with a friend and hit the nightlife, meeting Kevin on her first night out. I don't usually quote clients directly, but this is so sweet, that I will: "He is a good, good man, a wonderful husband and an even better father. You know, it's funny how things work out though I truly believe everything happens for a reason and had it not rained on our first trip here, I probably wouldn't have come back so soon. And had Kevin not skipped Regiment that night, we may never have met."

Happy 10th anniversary Kevin - you are a lucky man, and it sounds like Irene is pretty lucky herself. I wish you many more years of wedded bliss!

Happy Birthday Nathan

For the man who seemed impossible to buy for, Tania finally thought of the perfect gift for Nathan. As a combined birthday and 8th anniversary present, Tania opted for some dreamy boudoir shots to be taken, and then be printed in a custom designed photobook. She insisted she was just the girl next door, but I have to say, looking at these photos, I beg to differ. She was a joy to work with and trusted me to capture her vision. I may have gone off track from the girl next door, but I think the result is just heavenly - isn't she utterly classic and beautiful?

Tania actually used to body build and competed in Fitness and Figure here in Bermuda, which is where previous blog post athlete, Ryall Graber, started competing, but for the moment, Tania is taking some time off from the intense training to enjoy mummyhood with her darling little girl. But Tania tells me watch this space!

Reinventing Ryall

Reintroducing Ryall - prepare to be wowed by this beautiful athlete's amazingness! If any of you saw my last blog post on Ryall's shoot at the beach which was cut short due to flat light, these images will rock your world. I think the grey day was a blessing in disguise, for instead of taking the typical body building photos originally planned, we spent the time brainstorming how we could take her promo images to a new and creative level. I was so thrilled that Ryall just believed in my vision and let me get carried away.

Ryall is also a nutritionist and personal trainer, so she wanted some creative shots that would reflect that side of her business.

Ok - so we had to slip in one classic sporty shot, but it was so beautiful at The Reefs, and the sun was so bright, that we could't help ourselves!

Ryall had adored my shots of the models in the pool with the flowers and wanted a similar shot.

Don't forget to check out Ryall's website or click here to see images from her latest performance at the Europa Show Of Champions in Orlando. She finished in 9th place - not bad for her second professional competition ever - I'm excited to see what the future holds for this rising star.
