Burnet Family

Brothers Gary, who lives in Bermuda with his family, and Iain, who flew in from Perth with his family, decided it would not be a proper family reunion without their father, Fergus, so he was flown down to the Island from Spain. Fergus was thrilled to be in Bermuda with his only sons, and to see the grand children all together for the first time.

Grandad Fergus was given quite the workout by all his grandchildren as they raced down the beach together. It was a blustery day but still perfect beach weather nonetheless.

Gary, Jayne and their darling daughter, Lara, live in Bermuda and were thrilled to have everyone visiting from so far away. Lara especially loved having her cousins around. It was the first time she had met them and big girl Emma was an expert at entertaining her almost 2 year old baby cousin on the beach for hours. They chose Grape Bay as their shoot location as they go there every Sunday morning for a play date and have spent many a happy sunny days at that beach.

Lara is such a little love bug - and her eyes are just to die for - I felt like I was swimming in that beautiful blueness.

Iain, Donna moved from Scotland to Perth, Australia 12 years ago. They started their family there and are now very happily settled. The family were only in Bermuda for five days as part of their round the world travels, but it was enough to convince Gary and Jayne that they needed to go see their family in Oz as soon as Lara is a bit older.

Emma, Cate and Callum were hilarious and had me in giggles most of the shoot.

Emma is the eldest and is eleven.

Cate is nine and I love loved her pretty hair piece with the feathers.

Callum is five and was very sweet with his little cousin Lara and a real trooper being surrounded only by girls.

These two had me in stitches - so much so that not all of these images are as sharp as I would have liked, but I am coming to terms with the fact that sometimes the emotion captured is more important than technical perfection and as such, I hope enjoy this series as much as I do.

Lara had at first been very distressed to see her beloved hero cousin, Emma, tied up in the vines, but when it came to wrapping up Callum, she thought is was a bit more acceptable.

Luckily, Callum has super hero strength and bust out of the bindings to freedom!

This was my third family session with the Southerns and I am always impressed by how beautifully behaved the boys are. Of course, selfishly, it makes me feel rather insecure that my two are so wild, but on a professional level, of course I adore it as it makes my job so much easier! Liz assures me that they can be crazy boys, that most nights they wear goggles in the bath and drag their boogey boards around the floor, but they really are the most sweet, respectful boys, even when they are having fun.

Tim and Liz wanted to capture the fun the family has living in Bermuda, and as a gift for Tim's father's 80th birthday. They know how lucky they are that their children are growing up in such a fabulous environment and what a wonderful childhood they are having - how childhoods should be. They love to have a photo each year to capture how the boys have changed. Liz thinks of when the boys will be older and doing their own thing, then she will be able to sit in her comfortable chair and gaze at the wall with the photos from these times, and always keep the memories alive, no matter what happens in the future.

Alexander will be seven in June. He is a sweet, kind, helpful, caring boy who loves every kind of sport, be it running, cycling, football, cricket, rugby, sailing, swimming, t-ball... the list goes on. He is also a bookworm and adores his bedtime stories. And on top of all this, he is also a wonderful big brother, always helping to build train tracks, race tracks and any other kind of track out there.

Nicholas, who will be turning three in June, is a little character and has been from moment one. He is the snuggle muffin in the family and loves hugs and kisses, and his smile lights up the world for his mama and papa. They call him Tricky Nicky, though they do not divulge why.... He adores his big brother and wants to do every single thing that Alex does. When not learning from his big brother, he loves driving diggers, playing dress up and singing Pff the Magic Dragon at the top of his voice a a hundred times over.

Tim is happiest pottering around inside the reef in his boat with his boys with their rods. Liz is happiest with her boys just being beside the sea - she thinks it is the Essex girl in her!

The boys adore the ocean... just running around in the fresh air and the open space and frolicking in the waves. What better simple pleasure could there be, asks Liz.
